Our Vineyard at the Heart of Kithairon
Our vineyard is nestled in the historic region of Mount Kithairon, an area deeply rooted in Greek tradition and mythology. In antiquity, Kithairon marked the border between Megaris and Boeotia and was closely linked to the worship of Dionysus, god of wine and celebration. According to myth, Orpheus brought the music and rites of Dionysus to this land, introducing sacred mysteries to ancient Greece. The region also held strategic importance, as key mountain passes connecting Attica and Boeotia ran through it.
Kithairon offers a truly distinctive terroir, shaped by its unique combination of geography, climate, and soil composition—a perfect setting for viticulture. Its location at the crossroads of Attica and Boeotia creates a natural microclimate, sheltered from strong winds and extreme temperatures.
The soils here are limestone-rich and well-drained, enabling the vines to thrive without excessive moisture or disease pressure. The climate features hot summers and mild winters, allowing for ideal grape ripening conditions, while the abundant sunlight helps develop concentrated aromas and expressive flavors.
This exceptional terroir provides the ideal environment for cultivating grape varieties such as Xinomavro, Syrah, Chardonnay, and others—yielding wines with bold character, aromatic richness, and a true expression of place. Combined with traditional winemaking practices, the Kithairon terroir is at the very heart of the quality and identity of our wines.
Today, Mount Kithairon continues to preserve its cultural legacy, hosting remarkable landmarks such as the Aigosthena fortress in Porto Germeno, the Monastery of Saint Meletios, and the ancient sites of Leuctra and Plataea—bridging past and present. Its fertile lands are still ideal for viticulture, and its rich history is captured in our vineyards, producing authentic wines of outstanding quality, continuing a winemaking tradition that dates back to antiquity.
